We Are Ghana Armwrestling Federation

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) is a nationally recognized sports organization dedicated to promoting the sport of armwrestling across Ghana. Since our establishment in 2016, we’ve grown into one of Africa’s most successful federations uniting athletes, empowering communities, and elevating Ghana on the world stage.

We operate with a mission to train, develop, and support armwrestling talent through structured programs, competitive platforms, and international exposure. Through the Golden Arms national team, our certified coaches and referees, and vibrant regional clubs, we are not only building champions; we are building legacies.

Meet the President

Charles Osei Asibey – President, Ghana Armwrestling Federation President, Africa Armwrestling Federation | Vice President, World Armwrestling Federation

Charles Osei Asibey, affectionately known as “The Barrister,” is a distinguished figure in the world of sports administration. With a career spanning nearly three decades in broadcast journalism, he has been instrumental in elevating armwrestling from a recreational activity to a recognized competitive sport in Ghana and across Africa.

In 2016, Mr. Asibey founded the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF), marking it as the 40th sporting federation recognized by the National Sports Authority. Under his visionary leadership, GAF has achieved significant milestones, including hosting and winning the 2018 Africa Armwrestling Championship and developing a robust national team known as the “Golden Arms.”

His dedication and impact have been acknowledged globally. In July 2022, he was elected President of the Africa Armwrestling Federation (AFA), becoming the first Ghanaian to hold this prestigious position. Simultaneously, he was appointed Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), reflecting his influence and commitment to the sport on an international scale.

Beyond armwrestling, Mr. Asibey serves as the General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and is a former Communications Director of the Ghana Olympic Committee. His multifaceted contributions to sports have earned him accolades, including being honored as the Best Sports Administrator in the USA by 3G Media in 2019.
