Golden Arms of Ghana Wins 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship in Style
Team Ghana, affectionately called the Golden Arms, delivered a historic and commanding performance to emerge champions of the 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship after two days of thrilling competition at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
The host nation overpowered strong competition from more than 20 African countries to clinch the overall title amid deafening cheers from hundreds of supporters who filled the arena to witness the continent’s biggest Armwrestling spectacle.
Ghana’s athletes displayed power, technique and resilience throughout the championship, sweeping several gold medals in both the male and female categories to finish at the summit of the medal table with Gold 71, Silver 63, Bronze 34.
The championship saw standout performances from captain Edward Yamoah Asamoah, Godwin Sackey, Grace Minta, Price Affum, Henry Otto, Mabel Yeboah, Rashida Bukari, Daniel Acquah, and the many talented young athletes all of whom played instrumental roles in Ghana’s remarkable success story.
The atmosphere at the venue was electric as the Golden Arms consistently dominated the tables, thrilling fans with dramatic victories and tactical masterclasses against opponents from Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Benin, South Africa, Mali, Madagascar and more.
Speaking after the triumph, , President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey commended Team Ghana for their determination and discipline.
He described the victory as a proud moment for Ghana sports and a testament to the country’s growing dominance in African Armwrestling.
“This victory shows that Ghana has become a true powerhouse in African Armwrestling. Our athletes fought with heart, passion and patriotism. The future of the sport in Ghana and Africa is very bright,” he stated.
The championship also attracted a large number of dignitaries including the Minister for Sports & Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Director-General for Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Ghana Olympic Committee President, Richard Akpokavie Esq., Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, Board members of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, sports administrators and international delegates who praised Ghana for successfully hosting a world-class event.
The successful organisation of the championship further strengthened Ghana’s reputation as one of Africa’s emerging destinations for international sporting events.
With the continental trophy secured in grand style on home soil, Team Ghana has once again reaffirmed its status as Africa’s golden force in armwrestling.
