GCAA Embraces Armwrestling for Staff Wellness and Partnership

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has engaged the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) in a strategic meeting aimed at promoting Armwrestling as a tool for wellness, teamwork, and youth development within the aviation sector.

During the meeting held in Accra, GCAA expressed strong interest in adopting Armwrestling to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle among its largely youthful workforce. The move aligns with GAF’s corporate outreach agenda, which seeks to foster partnerships with reputable institutions across Ghana.

Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of GAF, highlighted the Federation’s meteoric rise, citing its contribution of 41 out of Ghana’s 69 total medals at the 2023 African Games. He reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to youth empowerment and national pride, using Armwrestling as a platform for growth.

“We are not just about medals; we are about impact. Armwrestling has become a sport of choice and a tool for transformation,” Mr. Osei Asibey said.

He also announced Ghana’s upcoming participation in the 2025 African Armwrestling Championship in Nigeria, where the Golden Arms will compete as defending champions after securing 132 medals in the previous edition.

GCAA Director-General, Mr. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, commended GAF for its innovative outreach and pledged support for a sustained partnership. He revealed plans to include Armwrestling in a proposed Annual Aviation Sports Festival and integrate the sport into workplace wellness programs.

“This collaboration will not only enhance fitness among staff but build stronger bonds across departments through sport,” Mr. Arthur stated.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to the partnership, with senior representatives from GAF and GCAA present to chart a roadmap for implementation.
