Ghana’s Daniel Acquah, Mabel Yeboah shine as AFA names season’s top performers

The Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) has honoured Ghana’s Daniel Acquah and Mabel Yeboah as Male and Female Pullers of the Year after a season of dominant performances. The duo distinguished themselves at the 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship, capturing gold medals for the Golden Arms and playing a key role in Ghana’s success at the continental party.

Mabel Acquah had a complete sweep during the Africa Championship, playing undefeated by winning 4 gold medals in the 60kg Youth and Senior Women categories. She dominated the championship, becoming the revelation of the 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship. She further went to the World Championship in Albena, Bulgaria as the only youth athlete and battled 13 of the world best to clinch silver and bronze in the right and left arm battles.

On his part, Daniel Acquah who also played in the 60kg youth and senior categories, also beat all competitors to win 4 gold medals in the Africa Championships. He further went to the world champiuonship in Bulgaria to place 5th after facing off stiff oppositions.


Their remarkable podium performances was rewarded by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) as Mabel Yeboah was decorated with the Puller of the Year award and Daniel Acquah also earning a nomination at the 50th SWAG Awards.


Ghana’s Abigail Fremah was also named Referee of the Year by the Aremwrestling Federation of Africa in the top honours list.

The eight awardees will be honoured at the next Africa Armwrestling Champions.
