Accra, April 2025 – The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) continues to make significant strides beyond the competition arena, as its Vice President, Mr. Edwin Amankwah, has been elected to the Board of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
His election is a strong testament to the rising influence and credibility of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation within the broader sports governance space in the country. Mr. Amankwah’s inclusion on the board marks a historic milestone for GAF and affirms its growing role in shaping national sports policies and direction.
Reacting to the news, GAF President Charles Osei Asibey praised Mr. Amankwah for his dedication to the development of armwrestling and described the election as “a well-deserved recognition of his leadership and professionalism.”
“This victory is not just personal. It is a win for armwrestling as a sport, and a reflection of the work we have done to move from the margins to the mainstream of Ghana sports,” Mr. Asibey stated.
Mr. Amankwah is expected to bring his wealth of experience in sport development, corporate strategy, and event organization to the GOC board, helping to advocate for emerging sports like armwrestling and create pathways for broader national representation at multisport events, including the Olympic Games.
His election was confirmed during the recent Ghana Olympic Committee Congress held in Accra, where new members were sworn in for the 2025–2029 term.
