NHIA Boss Keen On Building Long-Term Support for Ghana’s Golden Arms

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to providing sustained support to Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, following their latest continental triumph.

The Golden Arms recently underlined their dominance at the Africa Armwrestling Championship in Abuja, returning home with an impressive 55 medals.

In recognition of NHIA’s support, a delegation from the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) paid a courtesy call on the Executive Management of the Authority in Accra to express their gratitude.

Dr. Bampoe praised the team’s achievements, describing them as “a source of national pride,” recalling their historic performance at the 2023 Africa Games, where the Golden Arms’ medal haul outshone the rest of Africa.

“Everybody loves a winning team. We are proud to be associated with your success. So long as you continue to deliver, we will continue to support,” he assured.

GAF President, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, noted that NHIA’s backing boosted team morale ahead of the championship, contributing to Ghana’s tally of 26 gold, 20 silver, and 9 bronze medals. This brings the Golden Arms’ overall medal count to 405, with 67% being gold medals, cementing their status as one of Africa’s most successful sporting teams.

The team also announced preparations for the World Armwrestling Championship in Bulgaria from September 10–22, 2025, and revealed that Ghana will proudly host the 2027 Africa Armwrestling Champions.

Dr. Senanu Djokoto, NHIA Deputy Chief Executive for Operations, commended the leadership of the Federation, pledging deeper collaboration.

The GAF delegation included Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum (Vice President), Mr. Husseini Akuetteh Addy, and Nii Otoo Larkyne. As a token of appreciation, the Golden Arms presented their medals and an official team jersey to NHIA’s Executive Management
