The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and Ghana Prisons Service have honored their officers who returned from Abuja, Nigeria, after excelling at the Africa Armwrestling Championship, where they contributed significantly to Ghana’s medal haul as African champions.
At a ceremony led by Mrs. Patience Baffoe Bonnie, Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, champions Daniel Acquah (4 Gold Medals), Mabel Yeboah (4 Gold Medals), and Henry Otoo (2 Silver, 2 Bronze) were celebrated for their outstanding performances.
The medalists shared their experiences and officially presented their medals to the Director-General. Mrs. Baffoe Bonnie praised their achievements and pledged to support the integration of armwrestling into the Prisons Service, noting the potential of sports in rehabilitation and discipline for inmates.

In a separate ceremony, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, congratulated Edward Yamoah Asamoah (2 Gold Medals), Blessed Abeka Nunoo (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze), Godwin Sackey (1 Gold, 1 Silver), and referee Nii Otoo Larkyne.
Mr. Basintale highlighted the importance of sports for fitness, morale, and teamwork among officers. He pledged resources for the development of armwrestling within the Immigration Service, including training facilities, equipment, and sponsorship.


Together, athletes from the security services contributed 20 medals out of Ghana’s 55-medal haul at the championship, reinforcing their crucial role in the Golden Arms’ continental dominance
Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, expressed deep appreciation for the continued support of the two security institutions.
“We’re motivated and inspired, knowing that we have the backing of these major security agencies. Their support is key to sustaining Ghana’s dominance in armwrestling,” he stated.
